History 2222 is a workshop in the art and craft of the historian.

My students engage in the big questions that have driven our discipline for thousands of years, and the challenges and opportunities we face today.

On our last day together they work in small teams to write a "rant," modelled after a famous Canadian beer commercial, about what it means to them to be historians.

Their final assignment is subtitled "On Being Neil deGrasse Tyson," and they have to write a blog post assessing both the accuracy and the sheer entertainment value of a movie, book, tv show, web series or video game that is set in a real time and place.
