History 2222 is a workshop in the art and craft of the historian.

My students engage in the big questions that have driven our discipline for thousands of years and the challenges and opportunities we face today, while honing the historian's unique blend of analytical and communication skills.

On our last day together they work in small teams to write a "rant," modelled after a famous Canadian beer commercial, about what it means to them to be historians.

Their final assignment allows them to demonstrate their skills, as they write a blog post (or, in 2019, for the first time ever, a podcast) assessing the historical accuracy and the sheer entertainment value of a movie, book, tv show, web series or video game that is set in a real time and place.
